The reactor noise analysis methods have been widely employed for determining reactor parameters such as time constant and dynamic characteristics, assessing corrected operating characteristics, and diagnosing unexpected abnormal status in advance. Even though the reactor noise analysis methods are developing toward applying to the power reactor the basic theory for stochastic process of nuclear fission can only be verified though experimenting in a critical assembly. The present study is, thus, to develop the fundamental theories and verify through reactor experiments using AGN-201 critical assembly which starts to operate on campus recently. This paper deals with the basic approach to the reactor noise analysis, and is proceeded the detailed experimental results which will be reported in the succeeding reports.
